Women Can Fix - This class is designed to equip women with the basic skills they need to tackle common household repair and upkeep challenges. The Home Depot Staff will assist participants in such topics as Fall planting and lawn and garden readiness; efficient kitchen design (with tips on improving storage capabilities!) and security solutions for the home, including preparing an emergency supply list.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers - Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a six-week education program designed to provide caregivers of older persons with the tools needed to take care of themselves. Caregivers learn to reduce stress, improve self-confidence, better communicate feelings, locate helpful resources, increase abilities to make tough decisions and balance their lives. The registration fee of $30 is for course materials.Kathy

Long Term Care Insurance - Come to a free and impartial educational seminar on the choices an individual has to pay the potentially high cost of long term care. Particular emphasis is placed on understanding long term care insurance. Both the New York State Partnership for Long Term Care and the Tradtional Non-Partnership long term care insurance policies. The seminar includes an informational power-point presentation, and questions and answer session. Also handout material to assist you in making that important decision, including a list of companies offering long term care insurance, helpful shopping tips, and other resources for more information.

Sharing Your Wishes - Learn how to start a conversation with your family concerning advanced care planning and health directives. In addition to learning how to compile a health care proxy, you will learn when to consult with physicians, attorneys & spiritual advisors so that your wishes are clearly expressed.

The Peaceful Death: End of Life Issues - This course will address issues faced by caregivers, individuals and families when confronted by end of life care. Topics of discussion include physical and biological changes that occur as someone approaches death, ethical issues pertaining to end of life care and treatment, coping with feelings of grief and guilt, hospice care, saying goodbye and making decisions about burial and memorial services.

Men CAN Cook! - This 4 part course will teach basic cooking skills, how to read and prepare recipes, plan and make a simple, healthy meal and how to be a smart food shopper. Each week you eat the meals you’ve cooked.

Financing Care: Part I - This first course in a two-part series will help you assess where you stand financially and what steps to take. Learn about important documents to update or put into place, such as the Health Care Proxy, Power of Attorney, Living Will, etc. Case studies of individuals and couples will be discussed. This class will be held at Home Aides of Central New York, 723 James Street, Syracuse
Tuesday 10/21/08 2:00 - 3:30pm
Financing Care: Part II - This course will further discuss how to finance care and how changes to the Medicaid law affect long-term care planning. You will learn about options for financing medical care and other services: Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicaid, Social Security, Long-Term Care Insurance, EPIC and Part D.
