The Online Tour - Watch Commander's Corridor
Booking - This is the central
receiving area where inmates are admitted and discharged. Law enforcement
agencies arrive at this area when admitting or receiving an inmate to the
facility. This is the beginning of a lengthy booking process which
consists of receiving property and money, showering and dressing inmates in
and out and
arranging for housing of a new reception inmate. Processing of many state
and local records occur in this location. Inmates are screened in
Booking for health and mental health reasons upon admission.
The official facility count is maintained in Booking.
| All inmates who temporary leave the
facility are
checked when leaving and checked again when they return. The picture to the right shows the dress-in rooms for
new inmates and inmates who are returning from areas outside the facility. These rooms
provide privacy for the inmate and do not have any areas within which would permit the
concealment of contraband. When the search of the inmate is complete, the inmate is sent
through the door at the left of the picture to their respective housing area.. |

Health Services - Health care
services are provided by the Onondaga County Health Department. Minor medical and
dental needs are provided on-site in this area. Sick call is held each day
and inmates are brought to one of
the examination rooms where the inmate receives evaluation and necessary
care. Regularly scheduled doctor's visits,
nurses sick call, and other activity keep the medical staff busy both day and night.
Security staff monitor activity within the medical unit. |

|
Medical staff dispense medication during
meals through a secure pass-through window. On the other side of this window is the inmate dining hall where one
inmate at a time come up to the window, identify themselves and take their medication in
the presence of the medical staff. This prevents the introduction of illegal contraband
and provides security for the staff member while at the same time stop access by any
inmate from to any medication. |
Inmate Dining Hall - This is where inmate meals are prepared by inmate workers, under supervision of security staff, for delivery to housing units. All inmate meals are consumed in their assigned housing unit.
| This is the kitchen area of the facility.
Inmate workers under the supervision of civilian staff, prepare, serve, and clean up after each meal.
All
workers are screened medically and work under the overall supervision of
security staff. |
