The Fire Bureau oversees the Special Operations Response Team that includes two technical expertise groups.
Hazardous Materials Response Group
Technical Rope Rescue Group
To pursue membership on the Special Operation Response Team, the following standards must be met:
— An active member of a
• Fire Department
• Ambulance Service
— Medical and Technical requirements
• Certified medically fit to perform firefighting or EMS duties
by applicant’s fire/EMS department physician or personal
physician
• Agree to submit to the County Baseline Testing Program
— Training Minimum Competency
— Hazardous Materials Team
• Completed NYS Hazmat I & Hazmat II and Radiation Safety
Courses, or equivalent
• EMS members must have awareness level certification and
be minimally certified as an EMT
— Technical Rope Rescue Team
• Personel will be trained to at least level 1
— Drill Participation Requirement (annual)
• Six technique specific drills
• Two full County Special Operation Team drills annually
— A 3-year commitment to the Team is required
The Special Operations Team has a few “Technical Expertise Members” who do not perform interventions at incidents, but who have unique expertise and can offer the team training and command support. This member classification does not require current firefighting or EMS skill certification.
