One of the local civil service commission’s responsibilities is to maintain a position classification plan covering all the civil divisions under its
jurisdiction. This plan includes class specifications for all titles included under the local commission’s rules.
Class specifications are formal written statements which define the duties and responsibilities of the position, list typical work activities of
positions in the class, specify the knowledge, skills, abilities and personal characteristics required for successful performance of the work and
minimum qualifications required at time of appointment.
Class specifications are not complete descriptions of any single job and cannot and do not include all of the work that might be appropriately
performed by a class.
Because class specifications are reviewed periodically and may be revised to insure that they accurately reflect the job, it is suggested that you
