Celebrate National Employee Health & Fitness Day, May 21, 2008
National Employee Health and Fitness Day is an excellent time to promote employee health and wellness and to create a special event at your worksite. Physical activity is a critical component to leading a healthy life and has been shown to decrease risk factors for heart disease, diabetes, and stroke, among other illnesses. Benefits to employers of a physically active workforce include an increase in productivity, morale and profitability. Supporting a physically active workforce is a smart business choice for employee health and for the bottom line of the organization. Adults should engage in moderate-intensity activities for at least 30 minutes per day at least five days per week or vigorous-intensity activities for at least 20 minutes per day at least 3 days per week.
