Two More Lead Recalls - Children's Necklaces Sold Exclusively at Claire's Stores and Children's Mood Necklaces Recalled by Rhode Island Novelty
The Onondaga County Health Department's Lead Poisoning Control Program is alerting parents of two additional voluntary recalls of children's jewelry. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has determined that these products contain high levels of lead.
Children's Necklaces Sold Exclusively at Claire's Stores
Product Description: The recalled children's necklaces have metal pendants shaped as monkeys, dolphins, and frogs holding colored marbles, a fleur de lis painted in various colors, a silver and black fairy, silver-colored letters "BFF" with rhinestones, and tiny handcuffs painted in various colors. The pendants hang from silver-colored chains. "Claire's" or "Claire's best friends forever" is printed on the packaging. Pictures of all of the recalled items are available at www.cpsc.gov.
Sold: Claire's retail stores nationwide from December 2005 through December 2006 for between $5 and $11.

Children's Mood Necklaces Recalled by Rhode Island Novelty
Product Description: The recalled children's mood necklaces have multi-colored pendants including hearts, moons, dolphins, dragonflies, stars and butterflies that hang from a black cord. "Mood Necklace" is printed on the necklace's packaging. Pictures of all of the recalled items are available at www.cpsc.gov.
Sold: Carnivals, amusement parks, family entertainment centers, and small discount stores nationwide, and through Rhode Island Novelty's Web site, from August 2005 through December 2006 for about $1.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take this recalled jewelry away from children and return it to the store where purchased or to Rhode Island Novelty for a free replacement jewelry item. Parents are urged to take these products away from young children immediately.
Young children are especially at risk for lead poisoning because they often put non-food items in their mouth. Children with lead poisoning do not look sick. A blood lead test must be done to determine if a child has lead poisoning. If left untreated, lead poisoning can cause behavioral and learning problems.
