Sixth Annual Syracuse Nationals
July 2005
When automobile aficionados plan for the summer, traveling to Central New York in July is at the top of their list. Syracuse has a long history with the automobile and its coming of age including the fact that the Franklin automobile was created here in 1901; or that motor-sports first made an appearance in 1902 at the New York State Fairgrounds; and that the Museum of Automobile History located in Syracuse, NY has the world's largest collection of automobile culture with over 10,000 pieces. No wonder the Right Coast Car Association chooses to hold its nationally recognized automobile event in Syracuse, New York every year.
The New York State Fairgrounds is the Syracuse Nationals home. Last July [2005] marked the sixth annual Syracuse Nationals. With over 360 acres of ground, the NYS Fairgrounds offers attendees and visitors outdoor and indoor space with plenty of pavement and green grass outdoors and buildings to provide cool, wide-open spaces for the automobile exhibitions. There were over 200 vendors this year at the Nationals fulfilling attendees' every automobile inquiry.
This year over 6,500 cars were registered in the Nationals. Most entries come from the U.S. and Canada, but this year there was one entry all the way from Hawaii! There were over 75,000 visitors who walked the fairgrounds, exploring the vast array of vendors and hot rods in attendance.
More than just a great time, the Syracuse Nationals accelerates local business activity during the busy event weekend. The Central New York Car Club Association – host of the Syracuse Nationals – donates a portion of the proceeds to a number of local charities each year. Last year the Association donated $34,000 to local charities bringing the total donations to local charities for the past six years to $140,000. In addition to the donations, the Syracuse Nationals visitors and attendees helped to fuel the local Central New York businesses by pumping nearly $10 million back into the economy. This figure was derived by calculating normal consumer travel spending patterns including money spend on food, stay, travel, and entertainment with its monetary effect on the economy.
The Syracuse Nationals will be hosted by the Central New York Car Club Association will be held again this year – July 14 – 16 2006 – at the New York State Fairgrounds.
