August 07, 2002
On Tuesday, August 6, Onondaga Lake Parkway was the venue for the 21st annual JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge © Syracuse road race. Over 268 local companies were represented at the event, with 6,374 runners taking on the 3.5-mile course.
While the event, and the pre- and post-race company parties, is eagerly anticipated by many as an exciting and enjoyable highlight of the summer, it also is an opportunity to give back to the community. At this year's race, JPMorgan Chase presented County Executive Nicholas J. Pirro and Onondaga County Parks Commissioner Bob Geraci with a check for a portion of the monies raised from the event, to be used for the new Boundless Playground. The playground is slated to be opened in the spring of 2003 at Onondaga Lake Park.
The Boundless Playground concept is of a place where children of all ages and abilities can interact and play in an accommodating environment. Accordingly, the Boundless Playground will include elevated surfaces that are accessible to those in wheelchairs, Braille signs for the visually impaired, and other areas in which children of differing abilities can participate in fun and stimulating activities.
Corporate and private sector support is a key element in making the Boundless Playground and Family Activity Center at Onondaga Lake Park a reality. Thanks to all those who have already demonstrated their generosity.
