For the third year in a row, the streets of Syracuse and Onondaga County were filled with classic cars, trucks, hot rods and street rods, as the annual Syracuse Nationals came to the New York State Fairgrounds July 19-21. The largest car show of its kind on the East Coast, and one of the largest in the country, the Syracuse Nationals attracted a record-breaking 6,200 cars and 60,000 spectators to the three day event. Cars from 34 states and all 10 Canadian provinces participated in the show.
In addition to providing an exciting event for car enthusiasts and casual fans alike, the Syracuse Nationals organizers have maintained a strong commitment to charitable causes. At this year's closing ceremonies, over $15,000 was presented to five local organizations, including the Carol Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Over the past three years, the Syracuse Nationals organization has donated over $50,000 to worthy causes.
The growing popularity and success of the annual show has resulted in increasingly acclaim from both the classic car community and national and international publications. Articles previewing the show appeared in both the January 2002 edition of Street Rodder magazine and the June 2002 issue of Classic Truck. A review of the event is also featured in the new issue of the Fairs and Expos, a trade publication of the International Association of Fairs and Expositions.
