Syracuse Professional Soccer: the "Salty Dogs"
March 24, 2003

County Executive Nicholas J. Pirro announced on Thursday March 20, 2003 that professional soccer is coming to P&C Stadium.

Syracuse pro soccer is comprised of a group of local investors and sports and business professionals. The Salty Dogs will be part of the "A" League presenting the Division II level of professional soccer, within the United Soccer League.

According to Pirro, "I am excited about bringing the people of our community another professional sports program. We built P&C Stadium to serve as the home of the Syracuse SkyChiefs and as the venue to other professional and amateur sports teams. So, I'm pleased that we achieved our number one goal in these discussions - maximizing the use of our stadium."

Syracuse's newest professional sports program, pro soccer, will play 10 games of their 14 game home series at the Onondaga County - owned P&C Stadium. The Syracuse pro soccer team, the "Salty Dogs" will have their opening day on May 17, 2003 at the P&C Stadium against the Toronto Lynx. The event opener will be complete with a performance from K.C. and the Sunshine Band, fireworks, youth soccer matches, a dynamic kids zone, and inflatable soccer games.
