The MOST is offering a two-week summer institute for K-8 educators weekdays from July 7 to July 18. The Museum Institute for Teaching Science (MITS) brings together the MOST, the Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park, the Center for Nature Education at Baltimore Woods, the Erie Canal Museum and the Onondaga Historical Association to "Integrate Science with Mathematics, Literacy and the Arts."
This program will engage educators in the process of inquiry as well as gaining methods, materials, content and connections with standards-based activities. At the same time, the educators will explore the resources of the Syracuse area.
For a $75 fee, the Institute will earn educators 90 PDP credits or, for an additional expense, 4 graduate credits. Up to 45 applicants will be accepted. For more information or to register, contact Carolyn Spilman at 315-425-9068 x2140.
MITS is an educator-training program conducted throughout the northeastern United States. In 2003, Syracuse is the only area where this program is offered in New York State. Additional information about MITS can be found at www.mits.org .
