According to the New York State Department of Labor, the Syracuse MSA (Cayuga, Madison, Onondaga and Oswego counties) has led the state's metropolitan areas in job creation for most months this year over last year. The Syracuse MSA created the most jobs of the state's metropolitan areas for all months in 2003 over 2002 except January and June.
Compared to last year's monthly total nonfarm job data, the Syracuse MSA created 4,100 new jobs in February 2003; 3,500 new jobs in March 2003; 4,200 new jobs in April 2003; 2,800 new jobs in May 2003; 4,800 new jobs in July 2003; and 3,000 in August. The Syracuse MSA was the state's second largest metropolitan area job creator in January 2003 and in June 2003, creating 3,600 and 3,100 new jobs, respectively.
