Ann C. Michel, a Central New York resident, was recently elected president of ProLiteracy Worldwide's board. She is the first from the area to lead the board of either ProLiteracy's merger partners, Laubach Literacy International and Literacy Volunteers of America, in 15 years.
ProLiteracy Worldwide is the world's largest nonprofit literacy organization headquartered here in Syracuse, NY. Both merger partners of ProLiteracy Worldwide were also based here in Syracuse, NY making Syracuse the world capital of nonprofit literacy efforts for 40 years.
ProLiteracy Worldwide designs literacy programs, develops materials and publishes books and a weekly newspaper for beginning readers in the United States and 45 developing countries around the world.
