Onondaga County Executive Nicholas J. Pirro today named Dr. Cynthia Morrow as Commissioner of Health for Onondaga County.
Dr. Morrow, who has been Director of Preventive Services in the department since 2000, will succeed Dr. Lloyd Novick who is leaving to take a teaching position.
Dr. Morrow received her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. She completed her residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. Prior to her employment with Onondaga County, Dr. Morrow worked in private practice in Florida and also worked as the Medical Director for a regional health center operated by the Guam Department of Health.
According to Pirro, “Dr. Morrow’s experience and knowledge of the Onondaga County Health Department, her familiarity with the community and her background in both public health and as a private practice physician make her very well suited to serve the people of this County as Commissioner of Health.”
Dr. Morrow’s appointment, effective on June 30th, is subject to confirmation by the State Health Commissioner and the Onondaga County Legislature.
Dr. Morrow said she is looking forward to the challenges. “I am excited about the opportunity to lead this great health department in its ongoing efforts to improve the health of our community.”
Commissioner-designate Morrow resides in Manlius with her husband, Dr. John Epling, a family physician on the faculty of SUNY Upstate Medical University, and the couple’s three children.
