VACATION:

SICK LEAVE:
Sick leave credits are earned at the rate of 3.08 hours per pay period (26 pay periods per year).
(*Sick leave may not be used until completion of three months of continuous service.)
RETIREMENT:

NYS Retirement Article 14-B, Section 552

You are required to contribute 3% of your gross earnings toward your retirement benefits, until the completion of 10 years of continuous service, at which time the contribution is waived. With 20 years of service, you will receive a retirement benefit of 50% of your final average salary.



Qualifications
On the date of examination:
¤ Must be at least 19 yrs. 6 mos. of age on or before (not eligible if 35 years of age or older, unless there is qualifying military duty)
¤ Must have resided in the U.S. or one of its territories for not less than one month immediately preceding the date of exam
¤ Must be a citizen of the United States

On the date of appointment:

¤ Must be 20 years of age
¤ Must be a resident of Onondaga County or any adjoining county
¤ Must be a high school graduate, possess a GED, or possess a U.S. Armed Forces General Education Certificate
¤ Must possess a valid New York State Driver's License
Special Necessary Requirements:
¤ Must meet the prescribed general physical conditions as stated in the Municipal Police Training Council Standards (see Physical Agility Test below)
¤ No conviction of a felony (Conviction of a misdemeanor may bar appointment.)
¤ Psychiatric and polygraph examination may be required of any successful candidate prior to appointment
¤ Successful completion of the New York State Municipal Training Council and Onondaga County Sheriff's Office Training and Evaluation Program



Physical Agility Test
Elements of the test battery to be used for physical fitness screening are described below. Although these elements may not be directly representative of essential job functions to be performed by an entry-level officer, such elements do measure the candidate's physiological capacity to learn and perform the essential job functions. The minimum scores for employment as an entry-level police officer, as set forth below, represent the fortieth (40th) percentile of fitness. If a candidate does not successfully score to the fortieth (40th) percentile of fitness for each of the elements of the test battery, the candidate shall not be deemed to have successfully completed the physical fitness screening test. The 1.5 mile run shall only be administered to individuals that have successfully completed each of the other two elements of the test battery.

Muscular endurance - The score indicated below is the number of bent-leg sit-ups performed in one minute.
Push-up: Muscular endurance (upper body) - The score below is the maximum number of full body repetitions that a candidate must complete without breaks.
1.5 Mile Run: Cardiovascular capacity - The score indicated below is calculated in minutes:seconds.
