SAFIS
is used for the elimination and identification of latent prints.
It allows the Forensic Evidence Specialists to search the state's
fingerprint database in an attempt to identify latent prints recovered
at a crime scene.
Members
assigned to the Midstate SAFIS site, which encompasses 14 counties and
110 police agencies in New York State, are also able to conduct computerized
comparisons of crime scene prints to the statewide fingerprint database,
and other state systems as well.
