Underwater Search and Recovery Team

The mission of this team is to support the overall law enforcement and service missions of the Sheriff's Office with members specially trained and equipped to perform in and under water.

Deputies on this team are certified divers and their responsibilities are:

    • Search for and rescue/recover drowning victims
    • Search for/recover physical evidence
    • Recover submerged vehicles
    • Act as safety divers during special events (Regatta, Fishing Derby, Balloon Festival) and helicopter water rescue training

The deputies in this team are given special training in areas such as search patterns, deep dives, cold water, ice diving, contaminated water, limited visibility, confined/debris conditions, cold water dry suit, planning board, and helicopter water rescues. The search patterns that they are trained in are expanding or contraction arc - rope search, parallel rope search, grid, running jack line, free dive, planning board, and compass.
