Asbestos removal contractors

WEP accepts wastewater from asbestos removal contractors. This program provides contractors with an alternative to landfill disposal for the treatment and disposal of asbestos-containing wastewater. WEP requires that asbestos removal contractors abide by its regulations for discharging wastewater to the Onondaga County Sanitary Sewer System.

WEP procedures require contractors to submit an “Asbestos Abatement Project Notification/Permit Application” before beginning the project. (See link below for application form.)

The current fee for permit application is $100.00.

Once the completed application is received by this Department, an inspection is conducted to ensure that the contractor conforms to the Department's “Procedures for the Acceptance of Wastewater from Asbestos Abatement Projects” (link below).

If the Department accepts the contractor's application, the contractor will be required to discharge the wastewater through a series of three filters, each with progressively smaller pore sizes, to ensure that the majority of asbestos is removed from the wastewater.
