Follow your fish, tag & recapture

As part of the Ambient Monitoring Program, Onondaga County tags select gamefish species on Onondaga Lake, primarily largemouth and smallmouth bass. Since 2000, the County has tagged over 2600 fish. Over 275 of these fish have been reported recaptures.

The tagging-and-recapture data let us evaluate and assess growth rates and movement of gamefish in Onondaga Lake and the Three Rivers system. This web page gives reporting anglers the available history and data regarding their recaptured fish.

Notes: 1. All fish are intially tagged in Onondaga Lake. See map below for transect (EF) locations. "OL Marina" refers to the Onondaga Lake Park marina.
2. We only collect scales for age analysis from largemouth and smallmouth bass during the fall electrofishing and gill net events.
