Treatment plants

Clean water is a big job: This map shows Onondaga County's treatment plants and the pump stations in the system. It also shows the outline of the County Sanitary District and treatment plant service areas.

Processing over 33 billion gallons of wastewater each year puts an immense burden on the treatment facilities. WEP provides proactive maintenance to mechanical equipment, piped utilities, buildings and grounds of the eight treatment plants and the chemical feed systems at several pump stations.

Our skilled personnel perform machine repair and machine shop services. We have workers qualified in welding, plumbing, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, locksmithing, roofing, and masonry. They maintain over 5000 pieces of mechanical equipment, 180 tanks, and over 70 structures.

The dynamic maintenance programs include "Predictive Maintenance" (PdM) through machine monitoring and vibration analysis, laser shaft and sheave alignment, and lubricant wear-metal analysis.

Keeping up-to-date

Workers have recently been trained in many areas including boiler operations, welding, cutting, plumbing, rotating equipment repair, lubrication, equipment monitoring, and proper use of measurement tools. Additional training involved fork truck operation and safety, "Right-to-Know," and chemical emergency response.

Recordkeeping is now undergoing a dramatic transformation—from a manual system to an automated database that will include not only maintenance but also materials ordering, receiving, and inventory.
