Light truck and vehicle maintenance

The light truck and vehicle maintenance group of the Fleet Service Group is located at 500 Hiawatha Boulevard West, on the premises of Metro, in Syracuse. This group handles vehicle maintenance for 1300 vehicles including patrol cars, pick-up tricks, vans, and other small vehicles. These vehicles average fifteen thousand miles each year. The maintenance facility has seven repair bays, including six lifts.

Technicians of the light truck and vehicle maintenance group make needed repairs and perform NYS inspections on County vehicles—except those in the Transportation Department—as needed. They do electrical work, brakes, suspension, and all other maintenance. The group's clerical staff keeps vehicle records, too, and notifies drivers when preventive maintenance or inspections are called for.

The light truck and vehicle maintenance group has implemented software called "Faster." This software has improved tracking of information on the repairs to vehicles. It has also permitted the group to develop a database of the relative repair histories of different types of vehicles.
