***************FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS**************

WHERE CAN I FIND A COPY OF MY MARRIAGE LICENSE?

ONLY Town Clerks and City Clerks in NYS issue marriage licenses.  If you know where you originally obtained your license, you can contact that Town Clerk or City Clerk to get a certified copy.

If you are not sure of where you first obtained it you can contact the New York State Department of Vital Statistics where all original marriage licenses are filed in New York State to obtain a copy.

For additional information visit: http://www.health.ny.gov/vital_records/marriage.htm

CAN SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN "ORDAINED ONLINE" LEGALLY OFFICIATE A MARRIAGE CEREMONY?

The County Clerk's Office cannot answer questions on the legal qualifications of a marriage officiant.  This is a requirement of the NYS Domestic Relations Law, Article 3, Sections 11 & 12 and not under the jurisdiction of the County Clerk's office.

If someone has questions or concerns on the qualifications of an officiant to solemnize a marriage in New York State, our office recommends that the couple or an individual seek advice from an appropriate legal source.
