Mahoney Appoints William Fisher Onondaga County Deputy County Executive
June 29, 2009

Syracuse, NY - Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney today announced she has appointed William P. Fisher as Deputy County Executive for Onondaga County. “I am happy to announce that Bill Fisher has agreed to become Onondaga County’s Deputy County Executive,” Mahoney said at today’s media event, where she announced Fisher as Ed Kochian’s successor as Deputy County Executive.

"I am honored that County Executive Mahoney has asked me to serve as Deputy County Executive. She has a great team that has made significant progress on the vision she has articulated for the citizens of Onondaga County,” Fisher said of the appointment. “I am looking forward to working with Joanie, her administration, and the County Legislature, to continue the progress they have made. At the same time, I am humbled to succeed Ed Kochian in this position."

Fisher served as Director of Mahoney’s transition team and was appointed by her in 2008 to the Onondaga County Public Library Board of Trustees, and to serve as one of Onondaga County’s three representatives to the Upstate Mandate Relief Commission. Since 1991, he has been the CEO of Summit Software Company, a position from which he resigned prior to accepting this appointment.

“When I first met Bill in 2005, I was struck by his sharp intellect, his work ethic, and his keen business sense. He has continued to impress me as an individual, and as a strong advocate for Onondaga County,” Mahoney said of her choice. “He will complement our team and bring his extensive knowledge and business experience to Onondaga County. I know he will jump right in and get to work immediately, and I look forward to his partnership and input.”

Fisher holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Yale University and a Master’s Degree from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University. He grew up in Onondaga County and attended Bishop Ludden High School. He and his wife Karen recently celebrated their 20th anniversary. They have five children and reside in Camillus.
