BETTS LIBRARIAN ASSISTANT - COMPUTER LITERACY


Onondaga County Public Library is seeking a qualified part-time Librarian Assistant to work at the Betts Branch Library 17 hours per week. The successful candidate will primarily assist adults with computer literacy. Betts Branch Library, one of eight branches in the city of Syracuse, is located in the Valley section of the city and serves a dynamic community.

Job Responsibilities:

Specialized area of responsibility:

Develop one-on-one and small group computer help sessions

Assist with computer use, including internet use, resume creation, online applications

Assume leadership role in adult digital literacy efforts

Provide outreach to area community groups

General duties will include:

Provide direct assistance to all patrons regarding use of library materials, equipment, and services

Prepare marketing displays and print requests

Develop program assessment tools

Perform other duties as needed


Candidates should possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

Proficiency with Windows Operating System, web searching, standard MS Office applications and downloadable devices

Excellent customer service skills

Ability to work with all age groups and skill levels

Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Demonstrated social media proficiency

Availability:

Must be available to work up to 17 hours per week, including rotating Saturdays, and some evenings.

Pay Rate:

$24.43 per hour

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university

1-3 years of relevant experience preferred

Strong technology background preferred

Teaching experience desirable

The successful candidate will actively engage with teens, providing programs and services that help them grow into lifelong learners, prepare them for college and careers and build the knowledge and skills they need to be productive in the 21st century.

Betts Branch Library, one of eight branches in the city of Syracuse, is located in the Valley section of the city and serves a dynamic community. This position will work in collaboration with city staff, area schools and community groups to build and engage Betts’ teen patron base.

Job Responsibilities:

Specialized area of responsibility:

Develop and provide programming, both passive and formal, that engages teens

Develop and provide opportunities for teens to develop leadership skills and contribute to their community

Oversee the Teen Summer Learning Program and provide related programming

Provide outreach to neighboring schools

Coordinate teen volunteer opportunities at the library

Represent OCPL and Betts Branch at community events, such as school fairs and Open House

General duties will include

Provide direct assistance to all patrons regarding use of library materials, equipment, and services, including computer and technology assistance

Maintain the Teen Collection and assist with collection development through purchase suggestions and weeding

Perform other duties as needed

Candidates should possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

Knowledge of developmental, recreational, and educational needs of teens

Excellent customer service skills

Creativity and ability to think outside the box

Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Demonstrated social media proficiency
