The Onondaga County Health Department is currently accepting applications for the position of:

Program Coordinator (Health)

Location: 421 Montgomery Street, Syracuse

Salary: $53,556 annually

Hours of work: Monday Ė Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.


Seeking a qualified candidate to oversee Performance Management and Quality Improvement efforts throughout the department as well as providing direct supervision to the Office of Vital Records. This position will also support ongoing Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) accreditation efforts. Position reports to the Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Health.

Job Duties:
Directly oversees the Office of Vital Records and coordinates and/or supports public health programs developed to provide health and related human services to the general population, a high risk segment of the population, or other designated segment of the population.
- Assists with program budget oversight and preparation, forecasting, maintenance and purchasing; may project needs, growth, etc.

Supports the department efforts of:
- Quality Improvement (QI)
- Performance Management
- Strategic Plan implementation and reporting
- Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) accreditation implementation, reporting, and re-accreditation
-Designs program services and seeks to provide these to the community or targeted population to improve health care, public health educational services and program service provision.
-Coordinates the provision of services with other Health Department staff, other community and human service agencies, health and medical providers, and public and private community organizations.
-Coordinates and networks with other public and private health and human service providers to develop strategies and establish objectives to insure health goals of the program are met on a cooperative basis.
-Compiles community wide data through epidemiological review of statistical sources for targeted high risk populations; collates data and prepares reports as needed.

Coordinates the educational component of the Vital Records, Performance Management, Strategic Plan, Quality Improvement, and Workforce Development in the Health Department.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelorís Degree or higher in a health related field and two (2) years of professional level work experience, or its part time equivalent, in planning, implementing, organizing, overseeing or administering a community service, human service, or health program; or,

Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with any Bachelorís Degree and two (2) years of professional level work experience, or its part time equivalent, in planning, implementing, organizing, overseeing or administering a health program; or,

NOTE: Completion of a Masterís Degree in health education, public health, health promotion, nursing, public health administration, or a closely related health field or public administration may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
