COMMISSIONER OF EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS
ONONDAGA COUNTY, NEW YORK
Onondaga County announces a search for the position of Commissioner of Emergency Communications. This position oversees a nationally accredited enhanced 9-1-1 Communications Control Center with approximately 150 employees and an annual budget of over $22 million. The 9-1-1 Center answers emergency and non-emergency calls from a population of 454,000 citizens and dispatches 95 public safety agencies including police, fire, and ambulance. This position is responsible for administration and operation of the 9-1-1 Center including budgeting, planning, training, and policy development. Candidates should have a comprehensive knowledge of an enhanced 9-1-1 system, simulcast digital trunked land mobile radio systems, mobile data systems, ability to analyze system needs, and have a knowledge of computer aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
Preferred qualifications include at least 10 years of professional management experience in a communications or public safety related field along with a Bachelors level degree. Candidates require a specific knowledge of 9-1-1 center operating practices and should have administrative experience in a single PSAP that dispatches all emergency agencies. Candidates should have extensive fiscal management experience, should have experience in managing a workforce represented by a collective bargaining agreement, must have successful project management experience, and a demonstrated success in dealing with multiple oversight boards, public safety officials, governmental officials, the general public, and the media. The Onondaga County Department of Emergency Communications is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) and candidates with experience with the accreditation process are preferred.
The salary range for this position is $92,895-$123,148. Onondaga County residency is required within 90 days of the appointment. Resume and cover letter should be submitted to the attention of:
