DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The work involves responsibility for establishing and implementing a system of inventory control procedures for equipment, property and supplies to insure effective utilization and continuity of supply. An employee in this class supervises the maintenance of complete, accurate and up-to-date records of physical inventory, its location, condition and storage. Work is performed under general supervision of an administrative superior with a considerable amount of latitude for exercising independent judgment in developing and enhancing a supply inventory system. This position is distinct from that of storekeeper in the scope of responsibility for perpetual inventory and equipment and in coordinating activities for its movement, care and utilization. Supervision is exercised over a number of subordinate personnel. Does related work as required.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Establishes, supervises and maintains a uniform, standard system of identification, storage and disbursement for materials and equipment; reviews procedures for proper usage and maintenance and arranges replacement and disposal of obsolete or damaged equipment.
Maintains and monitors inventory records to identify any surplus, shortage, duplication or loss of property and organizes and compiles data for the preparation of annual reports.
Arranges for the movement of property and supplies; implements special provisions for various types of fragile equipment and coordinates department schedules to insure safe, timely and effective delivery.
Works with building maintenance and security personnel to insure an accurate reporting system for theft, loss or damage and to provide for safe, secure storage.
Conducts periodic physical counts of all equipment assigned to each operating unit; checks this count against inventory balance and identifies and investigates any discrepancies.
Develops cost analysis reports as needed.
May use a computer to keep track of inventories of supplies, materials, and equipment. May assist in budget preparation.

Thorough knowledge of inventory control procedures used in receiving, disbursement, count and balance
checks and accountability of perpetual inventory.
Good knowledge of the methods and procedures involved with property movement.
Good knowledge of office methods and procedures.
Good knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision.
Ability to develop, implement and maintain inventory control procedures.
Ability to analyze and review equipment utilization data and prepare recommendations for future disposition.
Ability to develop and implement a system for equipment disposal, arranging for public sale, trade-in, or other appropriate method.
Ability to supervise the work of other.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships and coordinate efforts of personnel.
Ability to maintain and organize data and prepare narrative and numerical reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PROMOTION:
One (1) year of permanent competitive class status as a Storekeeper or three (3) years of permanent competitive class status as a Stock Clerk.

OPEN COMPETITIVE
Four (4) years of full time work experience or its part time, equivalent, in the field of inventory control, including requisition, receiving, storage and disbursing of materials and supplies.

NOTE: Completion of College credits from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university, in a field, of business management, business administration, accounting, computer science or a closely related field may be substituted for work experience up to a maximum of two (2) years as follows: Thirty (30) semester hours is equivalent to one (1) year of work experience sixty (60) semester hours is equivalent to two (2) years of work experience
