DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Under close and immediate supervision, an employee in this class receives on the job training in clerical and typing skills utilizing gained skills in work performed during the training period. The employee upon attaining required performance levels, is required to qualify through examination for positions in the Clerk I or Typist I job category. No supervision is exercised in this class. The employee is expected to exercise judgment and initiative to work independently as skills are developed. Assignment, training and work review is exercised by a second level clerical supervisor.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Assists in performing a variety of clerical work such as filing, indexing, typing, etc. while building skill and proficiency in these areas.
Assists in giving routine information regarding departments’ procedure orally or in response to telephone inquiries.
Learns standard office terminology, procedures, equipment and clerical techniques.
May undergo formal class sessions in basic English, mathematics and general clerical.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
Ability to learn clerical skills.
Ability to get along well with fellow workers.
