OFFICE AUTOMATION ANALYST
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The work involves responsibility for evaluating governmental departments requests for automated office systems to determine what their hardware and software needs are based on the volume and type of work produced by the department. This individual recommends office automation hardware and software such as personal computers, data processors, word processors and printers to user departments according to their needs, with concern for budgetary costs. Responsibility also encompasses new product evaluation, installation and informational support when problems arise, which involves acting as liaison with vendors and users. An employee in this class provides technical guidance and assistance to staff involved in office automation. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Analyzes user departments problems as they relate to handling data and determines office automation hardware and software requirements.
Recommends office automation hardware and software to user departments as it relates to the whole data processing system and support services availability.
Figures cost of office automation systems as they relate to the limitations of the user departments.
Evaluates new hardware and software products through reading product reviews and evaluations, talking with users and vendors on particular products and sometimes doing actual hands-on evaluations.
Provides hardware and software informational support when problems arise.
Acts as liaison between end user and vendor if support cannot be provided directly.
Develops procedures to ensure organizational flow of product use in user departments.
Does research and analyses and prepares reports and presentations for management.
Oversees the installation of office automation products.
WHEN ASSIGNED TO THE ONONDAGA COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT:
Participates in public health preparedness activities as trained and assigned.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of data processing systems, principles and methods of application.
Good knowledge of a selection of various office automation products such as personal computer hardware and software.
Ability to evaluate user departments hardware and software needs.
Ability to learn and use new hardware and software products and to adapt to new concepts.
Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to users.
Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with other data center staff and user departments.
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
A. Four (4) years of work experience, or its part-time equivalent in office automation systems including hardware and software support, or;
B. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a baccalaureate Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field, or;
C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
