DRAFTING TECHNICIAN II
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
This is advanced technical drafting work in the preparation of maps and drawings. Under supervision, an employee in this class prepares complex maps and plans from rough or detailed sketches, or field noted; by use of a computer and associate software create such drawings; and prepares manually, detailed and finished drawings from deeds and/or reduced field notes. This position differs form that of a Drafting Technician I in that the more advanced and difficult projects requiring higher skills are assigned Supervision may be exercised over a small number of Drafting Technician I. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Prepares composite parcel maps of properties described by metes and bounds.
Prepares ink drawings for submission to the State Board of Equalization and Assessment.
Prepares various drawings from reduced field notes; plots center lines and cross sections.
Prepares mounting, overlays and layouts in connection with planning, engineering and architectural studies.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Thorough knowledge of the principles, methods and instruments of mechanical drawing.
Working knowledge of personal computers and associates software used in drafting and engineering drawing preparations.
Working knowledge of mathematics through trigonometry.
Ability to read blueprints or survey maps.
Ability to prepare complex and technical maps and drawings.
Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
Ability to correctly identify and transfer to maps, property lines, streets, water systems, etc. as described in legal documents or reduced field notes, etc.
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
One (1) year of permanent competitive class status as a Drafting Technician I.
A. Successful completion of a course in mechanical drawing or drafting from a school recognized by the New York State Department of Education, and one (1) year of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in drafting; or,
B. Eighteen (18) months of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in drafting.
