The Onondaga County Health Department works within the overall community emergency preparedness structure led by the Onondaga County Department of Emergency Management. The objectives of Public Health Preparedness are to plan, prepare and respond to biological, chemical and radiological terrorism as well as any other threat to the public's health, natural or man-made.

The Public Health Preparedness unit works with local, state and federal partners to anticipate, manage and mitigate such threats. Onondaga County Health Department participates in training exercises that test the effectiveness of these plans and prepares staff to carry out their roles in an emergency.

Information is available to the general public on this website and in brochures designed to deliver information about hazards and how families and individuals can safely manage during disasters.
