The goal of Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work, and Play in Onondaga County is to develop programs that will prevent obesity, type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases. Interventions are based on implementing sustainable policy, systems and environmental changes that lead to the following outcomes:
- Increase physical activity and reduce sedentary behavior
- Increase access to and consumption of healthy foods and reduce access to and consumption of foods with minimal nutritional value
This approach to chronic disease prevention emphasizes supportive environments and population-wide efforts that may accelerate improvements in individual health behaviors and health outcomes.
