Community Education & Partners

Educational programs in death investigation and forensic pathology are provided to law enforcement, health and social services agencies and other community agencies. The OCMEO provides internship opportunities for college-level students interested in forensic pathology, forensic toxicology, medicolegal death investigation, and medicine.

The OCMEO has an active role in educating the community at large and also participates in ongoing continuing education to remain current in the scientific field. OCMEO staff actively participates in the Onondaga County Child Fatality Review Team which plays a critical public health role in identifying, reviewing, and preventing infant and childhood deaths. Medical examiners and forensic investigators present forensic pathology and investigative topics at the local, regional and national levels each year:

• Local middle schools and high schools to educate youth about forensic pathology and medicolegal death investigation
• Annual conferences and meetings for organizations such as the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME), American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) and Society for Forensic Toxicologists.

The OCMEO also collaborates with organizations of mutual interest:
