Medical

imageAll youth admitted to Hillbrook receive a health screening. A comprehensive health assessment, including health history, and mental health assessment is conducted within 24 hours of admission. A physician conducts a physical exam within 72 hours of admission.

An increasing number of residents have mental health needs. Psychiatric consultation is available eight hours per week. Residents on psychotropic medications are evaluated and monitored by a contracted psychiatrist, in consultation with their primary physician or psychiatrist and parent or guardian.

Parents or guardians are required to complete a medical consent form.

Parents are allowed to bring a resident’s medication from home. All medication must be in a prescription bottle, prescribed to the resident with the original label and the prescribing physicians name and contact number on it for verification.

If there is a situation that requires immediate medical attention, residents are transported to Community General Hospital which is located nearby.

Youth are offered the opportunity to participate in Onondaga County’s Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) reduction program. If they choose to participate, they receive a free STD test and are educated about sexually transmitted diseases.
