Everybody who lives in Syracuse and around Onondaga Lake can help to keep the lake cleaner. We can all do our part. But, how?

A new video explains what to do. Each of us in the lake's watershed can take simple actions in our everyday routine to prevent trash and pollutants from entering the lake. The video shows specific things to do as you take care of your house, garden, and car. For example, putting extra fertilizer on your grass does not make it grow better. The excess fertilizer can wash into Onondaga Lake and promote algae growth.

The video also helps you to understand how the combined sewers in the City of Syracuse can release debris and pollution directly from the city streets to the lake. So, you don't need to live right by the lake to have an effect—good or bad—on the lake's water quality.

Clubs and teachers may get a free copy. Click here to email Sue Miller,

The 16-minute video is available on DVD and on VHS tape and is narrated by local TV meteorologist Dave Eichorn. See how you can make the lake cleaner.
