Family Court
The Family Court Unit of the Onondaga County
Attorneys Office represents the Department of Social
Services in child abuse and neglect cases, terminations of
parental rights, foster care review cases and all other related
matters before the five Family Court Judges. The role of the
Family Court Unit is overwhelmingly crucial to protecting
children from physical, sexual and psychological abuse and
neglect as well as promoting stable, productive futures for
otherwise fragile lives.
Our attorneys also prosecute juvenile delinquency
(JD) cases and persons in need of supervision (PINS) cases
in Family Court. By doing so, the unit insures the safety
of the community and addresses the needs of juveniles through
working, not just with the children, but with families, schools,
police and other governmental agencies.
