I have lived in the 8th Legislative District for forty years and my political roots began there. My wife, Linda (Barnello), and I were married in 1968. Our youngest daughter, Jaime, is a graduate of SUNY Environmental School of Science and currently works for the Department of Environmental Protection in New Jersey. We have two adult married daughters, Kelly Venturini and Jennifer Annable, along with three wonderful grandchildren.
From 1969 to 1974 I worked at Allied Chemical. I am the Referral Agent for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #43 and have been a member since 1974.
In 1989 I was elected as a Councilor in the Town of Geddes. During that time I worked at becoming knowledgeable of the concerns and problems affecting my constituents, and I continue to do so. The former County Executive, Nick Pirro, appointed me as the 8th District County Legislator in May of 1995. In November I was elected in a very tough battle and have been re-elected in 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009.
Through my eight terms I have been a member of the Health, Planning and Economic Development, Transportation, Facilities, Education and Libraries Committees and the Ways & Means Committees. At this time I am Chair of the Environmental Protection Committee and Vice Chair of the Ways and Means Committee.
I currently serve on the Community Development Steering Committee, Community Development Housing Corporation, Region Seven Fish and Wildlife Management Board, and the Solvay Geddes Youth Center Board of Directors. Additionally, I am a member of the Camillus and the West End Republican Clubs, serving as Treasurer of the West End Club. I also am a member of Wildlife Forever, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Solvay Tigers and the North American Hunting Club.
During the time I have held public office I believe that history has shown me to be a “peoples’” candidate. My intention has always been to represent the constituents of this district in a forthright manner, with honesty and integrity, and to accomplish all that is possible in the best interest of our community. I am always accessible by phone or E-mail and have a very good relationship with the elected officials in the Towns I represent.
