What does a Peer do?
Peers with their own lived experiences provide a unique understanding
of the challenges faced by those seeking wellness and recovery.
A Peer will walk with you and provide support in the development of a recovery plan. Peers
approach recovery with an understanding that each person follows their own path. Peers
embrace the uniqueness of each individual’s ability to create a life of meaning and purpose as
they define it for themselves.
Peer supports are voluntary
Peers share hope, support, and encouragement
Peers offer one-to-one relationships
Peers can connect people to a wide range of resources and supports that promote
wellness/recovery
Peers believe that health, home, purpose, and community are elements that lead to
lasting wellness and recovery
