The mission of this team
is to enhance the department's community-oriented and problem-oriented
policing philosophy by providing more openly accessible deputies,
increased citizen contacts, and general interaction within the community
as well as having access to problem areas that were previously difficult
to respond to and address due to their nature and location.
The
deputies assigned to this detail work diligently to carry out the
community-policing mission by patrolling residential areas, parks,
and school grounds from June through September. They enforce New York
State laws as well as community ordnances and address community problems
such as juvenile drinking and vehicle larcenies.
They
provide security at several special events in spring, summer, and
fall such as the Balloon Fest and Jazz Fest. In addition, they make
presentations to the community regarding community relations, COP/POP,
and the bike patrol. This team has improved deputy-citizen relations
and enhanced public confidence by addressing the public safety needs
of the community.
