green pilot:

In preparation for the Board of Elections to move into their new building, at 1000 Erie Boulevard West, many green building practices were implemented including:

Lighting:
  • Bathroom Lighting – Energy Star Rated
  • Exterior Lighting – LED (energy saving fixture with long lifetime)
  • Exit signs and Emergency Lighting – LED (energy saving fixture with long lifetime)
  • Office Lighting – T8 fluorescent lamps (energy saving)
Plumbing:
  • Automatic turn-off faucets in bathrooms
  • Low-consumption toilets – 1.6 gpf (gallons per flush)
  • Low-consumption urinal – 1.0 gpf (gallons per flush)
Finishes:
  • Polished Concrete in Polling/Training Room (reuses existing material, polishing process is grinding with water, no adhesives or chemicals required)
  • Rubber base (renewable resource)
  • Carpet Tile
  • Backing contains min. 35% pre-consumer recycled content
  • Certified under the NSF 140 Sustainable Carpet Assessment Standard as Gold level
  • Floor and Wall Tile
  • Recycled Content
  • Ceiling Tile – Classified as low-emitting (VOC Class)
Miscellaneous:
  • Dyson Airblade Hand Dryers
  • GreenSpec Listed
  • Carbon Reduction Label
  • Certified by National Sanitation Foundation
  • Refrigerator – Energy Star Rated
Building Improvements:
  • Building Reuse- Maintained existing walls, floor and roof
  • Providing insulation in stud cavity at interior face of exterior wall – Increased energy efficiency
  • New window openings were added which provides natural daylighting to the interior spaces
  • All new windows are double glazed (insulated)
  • New Storm water Planter Box located at side of building to collect water from roof leaders currently depositing water on pavement
