KEEP THE SPIRIT OF '45 ALIVE
“KEEP THE SPIRIT OF ‘45 ALIVE“
A CELEBRATION OF THE 70TH ANNIVERSARY
OF THE END OF WWII
WITH ONONDAGA COUNTY AND THE ONCENTER PRESENTED BY SRC, INC.
SYRACUSE, NY – Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney and The Oncenter announce “Keep the Spirit of ’45 Alive”; an opportunity to celebrate both the 70th Anniversary of the end of WWII and the service of our veterans, presented by SRC, Inc. on Friday, August 14th.
Recognized in 2010 by the US House of Representatives, National Spirit of ’45 Day is observed on the second Sunday of August each year and pays tribute to the brave men and women who served our country during World War II. Known as “the Greatest Generations Greatest Day,” August 14th, 1945 signified victory over Japan and the end of World War II as well as the beginning of a new era in the United States.
The National Spirit of ’45 Day carries an annual call for re-dedication of the “Greatest Generation’s” memories and accomplishments, sacrifices and continuing courage. SRC, Inc. will join Onondaga County and The Oncenter to keep the spirit alive by hosting a day of Remembrance in the War Memorial Arena and adjacent Everson Plaza.
The day’s festivities include:
• Self-guided tours of Veteran displays - 11am-7pm, War Memorial
• Unveiling of a NEW commemorative WWII display - 11:30am, Second Floor of the War Memorial
• Ice Cream Social, Free for Veterans! [while supplies last] – 2pm-4pm,
Assembly Hall of the War Memorial
• Informal Wreath Laying Ceremony – 2pm-4pm, Everson Plaza
• ‘Keep the Spirit of ’45 Alive’ Celebration (40’s Themed Party) –
