Waste Haulers

Truck Image

Residents without access to a sanitary sewer system must have a septic system. These systems must be periodically drained and cleaned. This is usually accomplished by waste haulers.

Waste haulers also transport wastes from:

  • Holding tanks
  • Porta-potties
  • Restaurant grease traps
  • Other wastewater treatment plants.

WEP's waste hauler control facility is staffed daily from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
Samples of the waste delivered are randomly collected and analyzed to discourage the discharge of unwanted substances. Lab samples are also used to calculate pollutant loadings to the treatment plant and to calculate equitable fees for treatment. Each load of wastes is tracked through the use of disposal manifests and a database.

The waste hauler facility is located at 650 Hiawatha Boulevard West in Syracuse.

Waste haulers must have a Waste Transport Permit from New York State. In addition, an Onondaga County permit is required.

WEP charges haulers a minimal permit processing fee and a fee based on the amount and type of wastes delivered for treatment.
