Treatment:
Unox pure oxygen activated sludge plant. Pure oxygen
aeration generated on-site by pressure swing
adsorption.
Plant capacity: design = 10 MGD (peak = 24 MGD).
Plant facts
The plant was originally intended to accomplish
two-stage nitrification using two existing lagoons (18
MG each) as the second stage. The plant now utilizes
single-stage nitrification since the lagoons could not
nitrify consistently. In 2001 the aerated grit
chambers were covered for odor control. Odors are
mitigated using a packed tower scrubber and chemicals
listed below. The secondary clarifiers are equipped
with mid-tank baffles to prevent short-circuiting.

Principal chemicals used
Aluminum sulfate added in grit chambers for TP
removal. Sodium hypochlorite is used at the plant for
disinfection and odor control. Sodium hypochlorite is
fed at Davis Road and Gaskin Road pump stations for
H2S control. Sodium hydroxide is used at the plant
for odor control. Cationic emulsion polymer used to
enhance settling in secondary clarifiers.
Biosolids handling
Biosolids are sent to a gravity thickener and then
hauled by tanker to Metro for further processing.
