HAZARDOUS ROAD CONDITIONS

County Executive Joanie Mahoney has extended the Onondaga County Travel Advisory until 10 PM tonight, January 19th.

This travel advisory does not restrict travel. It is a warning to motorists that hazardous driving conditions may exist, particularly in the northern half of Onondaga County.

Heavy lake effect snow is expected to continue through the evening, particularly in the northern part of the county. The heaviest lake effect snow will fall through the evening. Lake effect snow will continue throughout Tuesday, but the snowfall rates should decrease.

Additionally, winds gusts could reach 35 mph throughout the storm causing decreased visibility and hazardous driving conditions.

Please monitor local forecasts and conditions as the impact varies depending on location.

Precautionary/preparedness actions
The expected winter storm event will create severe winter weather conditions. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will create dangerous travel conditions.

For the safety of all residents, the general public is encouraged to consider the need to be on the roads during the above time frame and to use extreme caution while traveling in or around Onondaga County. If you must travel, allow additional time and remember to completely clear your vehicle of snow.
