Welcome to the Department of Emergency Management
The Department of Emergency Management works collaboratively with emergency response agencies, utilities, public works and transportation groups, human service agencies, and city, town and village leadership, to protect life and property during disasters and emergencies in Onondaga County. It is the mission of the Department of Emergency Management to continually engage in emergency planning and preparedness for our entire community, and to promote skill development for all emergency first responders and support service personnel to ensure effective incident response and recovery.
The Department of Emergency Management was formed in April 2003 combining the former Division of Emergency Management and the former Fire Coordinator’s Office under one Commissioner. The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Bureau officially joined the Department in 2010.
